Contour Line Hands

High school students practiced close observation when drawing their hands in different, dynamic hand shapes. As a class, we discussed the elements of an interesting composition, including balancing positive and negative space, breaking the edges of the paper, and overlapping hands. Students practiced patience, persistence and determination when undergoing the artistic process. Once students had drawn accurate hand shapes, paying close attention to detail, proportion and scale, they outlined their hands in marker, and then experimented with watercolor washes.
